Amanda Gorman's Inspiration and a Card

cards Jan 21, 2021

Yesterday was the Inauguration. It was a lovely, uplifting ceremony.

I had never heard of Amanda Gorman and likely you hadn't either, but now we are all aware of her. She's such an amazing talent with more poise at just 22 (!) in her right pinky finger than I possess altogether. She has worked hard but also seems to be a natural talent. Her poem--the words and her delivery--were so very Wow! I've reread it and can't get enough. The ending lines:

"When day comes, we step out of the shade aflame and unafraid. The new dawn blooms as we free it. For there is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it."

Brave enough to see it. Brave enough to BE it.

I love that.

And so, I am posting a watercolor card made for my nephew's upcoming milestone birthday. I tried something new. Not super jazzed by it but I have thoughts on how to try it next time. What the next iteration may be. I am showing up today and practicing being brave enough.

Thank you, Amanda, for the inspiration that I will refer to repeatedly.
