Love Shack

A hundred years ago*, in the year I got married, there was a song by The B-52s called "Love Shack." It was a catchy tune that I used to like. It was so fun to sing along with in a bar or in the car (that sounds slightly Seussian). My husband tolerated it. It was the tail end of the 80s, a decade that he preferred to skip, musically speaking.

A new brewpub in our town lives inside this former residential home and sports this wood "LOVE" sign in front. The Virginia Tourism Corporation has a program, "The LOVEwork Reimbursement Program" that sponsors the LOVE signs after the popularity of the signs grew at Welcome Centers throughout the state. There are now some 200+ signs throughout the state and one happens to be right here in little Floyd, Virginia.

And since the Buffalo Mountain Brewery has the sign in their front yard for the past year plus, I can't drive by without thinking of "Love Shack."

(*For the record, I say "a hundred years" because something that happened 30 or more years ago may as well be 100 years ago. Almost. It is a chunk of time from the past that feels LONG ago.)
