Snow Day!
Feb 01, 2021
When it's a Snow Day anything can happen! That's what we say at my house. It implies it is a special day. A celebration! We have been known to have popcorn (& beer) for dinner even if it is Tuesday -- or pancakes (popular when our sons were young). Usually, I make a pot of chili and cornbread as was the case this past weekend. I wear snow PJs* until the snow is melted. I make an exception only to leave the house. And since that is rare in the time of COVID, I've worn them a lot. (Grinning.)
We had 'regular' snow days this past month. It was fun to wake up to see the ground covered or to watch it fall. Regular, like in the past, when we expected snow every winter but now isn't guaranteed just because it the right season. Lots of people are happy about that, but not me. Part of what makes cold weather (more) tolerable is having snow. The sheer beauty. The ground and rooftops become solid white. I don't favor white until I notice the contrast of trees and houses against the backdrop of snow. Outlined tree limbs. Shadows are easily seen. A walk outside to marvel at what feels ethereal or magical while entertaining the possibility of sledding and making a snowman (if it's the right kind of snow).
We seldom shovel because generally the next day it begins to melt. If we're lucky, it'll last two or three days. That, too, is fairly new. Gone are the winters when snow would stick around for several weeks. And, of course, if it doesn't snow because it's too warm, we end up with slushy "Wintry Mix," or worse, an ice storm. Or it may be so warm that it pours rain and you barely need a winter jacket. That's just plain wrong (for my area, perhaps not for yours.)
I'm grateful for the snow. That said, January 2021 is history. February has begun. March follows.
A shot of my fun snow PJs* that I wear every time it snows. Just because.
